The Plaza Hotel

The hotel has long been one of the most exclusive addresses in New York City, home to both visiting dignitaries and popular fictional characters. When the new owners decided to create permanent residences within the hotel, they wanted to take the Plaza experience to another level for both short and long-term residents.

ProSound crafted audio experiences for the main lobby and tea room, lounge and mezzanine areas, utilizing an immersive sound system with more than 68 speakers delivering specific sounds from 68 unique directions.

To accomplish this, the team recorded European symphonies and wild nature sounds and mixed the audio into a separate track for each speaker in the lobby.They fit these speakers invisibly into the walls of the historic architectural masterpiece as to not draw attention away from the sound itself and onto how it was being delivered.This was something that had never been done before in a venue of this kind, possibly because there’s simply no other venue of this kind.
